Shabana beef up technical bench with regional-title winning coach

Relegation-battling Shabana FC have added coach George Owoko to their technical team as they head into the decisive final 12 games of the season that will determine their fate in the top-flight league. The Glamour Boys occupy the second slot from the bottom, and unless they move from that position in the coming weeks, they will automatically go down after just a season in the top tier.##NAJAVA_MECA_7899423##They returned to the FKF Premier League after 17 years of fluctuating between the second and third tiers. After 22 rounds of league assignments, Shabana has managed four wins and six draws, while the remaining 12 games have all ended in defeats, with the latest being a 1-0 loss to Kenya Police FC at the Police Sacco. This result saw fans express their disappointment by holding the team hostage at the Police Sacco grounds, demanding answers. It took the intervention of the police for the irate fans to leave the ground. The club, in a bid to bolster their bench for the relegation dogfight, has brought in George Owoko as head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omolo’s assistant. There are conflicting reasons for his departure, with either party throwing blame at the other. Aringa was hired by Shabana towards the end of November.Owoko is a seasoned coach and is best remembered for his time with secondary school teams. He has handled national champions, St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, Barding Secondary School, Ambira High School, among others. He won the East African football title with Barding in 2016 and the U16 Copa Coca-Cola title with the Solidarity Boys in 2018.At the club level, he has coached Finlays, Nairobi United, Nairobi Stima, Vihiga Bullets, and MOFA FC among others. He has also served as Tusker FC and Bandari FC assistant coach.Shabana will be hoping that his expertise helps the team beat the drop amidst growing fears that the team could go down. He will be on the bench when his side faces Shalimar in a Mozzart Bet round of 32 match on Sunday in Naivas and, most importantly, in next week’s league match against Bandari FC in Homabay.
