Talanta Stadium construction inches closer amid AFCON 2027 preparations

The construction of the new Talanta Stadium seems to be nearing its commencement after Sports CS Ababu Namwamba inspected the chosen construction site at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road on Monday morning.Despite being selected as one of the host venues for the 2027 African Cup of Nations, construction of the stadium has yet to begin, five months after the site was officially handed over to the Kenya Defence Forces.##NAJAVA_MECA_7898964##The Kenya Defence Forces will oversee this project, alongside the ongoing renovations at Moi Kasarani Stadium and the development of Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.Previously, the CS explained that the delay in commencing construction was due to expert recommendations for amendments to the initial designs, which were released to the public, and a delay in selecting a contractor to oversee the project. However, the CS assured the public that once all necessary arrangements were in place, the project would proceed as scheduled, emphasizing that Kenya remains well within the timeframe for the biannual tournament.”We have finalized the design, which will be released soon after the contractor is determined. Regarding AFCON, we are on track,” he said in an interview with Kenyans. “Although we previously shared a design with the public, upon consultation with potential contractors, new ideas emerged, prompting further discussions.”Deeply Disappointed: McKinstry reacts to Gor Mahia’s early exit from Mozzart Bet CupTwo weeks ago, the CS clarified that, contrary to initial reports, the venue for the new stadium had not been finalized, as they were considering three other potential locations. While Jamhuri Grounds was favored, other options such as Mombasa, Konza, and Nakuru were also under consideration.”Jamhuri Grounds has always been the primary venue, but as a public facility funded by taxpayers, it must undergo public scrutiny. There have been discussions about alternative venues within Nairobi, as well as in Konza and Nakuru,” Namwamba informed the National Assembly Committee on Sports. However, the visit to Jamhuri Grounds with the contractor on Monday seemed to solidify its status as the chosen venue, eliminating the possibility of relocating the facility from the capital.Construction is progressing not only at Kasarani but also at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County in preparation for the CHAN tournament set for September. Kenya, along with its AFCON 2027 co-hosts Uganda and Tanzania, will be hosting the tournament.St. Anthony’s, Laiser lead nominees for SOYA schools award
