‘Do good through tennis’: Tsitsipas pledges donation to hurricane-hit Acapulco – video

Stefanos Tsitsipas spoke of his hopes to raise a substantial sum of money to help with the relief and reconstruction programme in Acapulco following the devastation caused by Hurricane Otis last October. Tsitsipas is currently playing in the Mexican Open in the city and has pledged to donate $1,000 (£790) for every ace he hits during the tournament.

More than 50 people were killed when the most powerful hurricane to hit Mexico’s Pacific coast struck Acapulco. Winds of up to 165mph (270km/h) caused billions of dollars’-worth of damage, with many thousands of homes and livelihoods destroyed. “I want to feed a lot of people. I want to provide [for] a lot of people,” Tsitsipas said. “I think compassion is something that I strictly subscribe to as a human being. This is something that is absolutely normal for me to do. And I’m hoping I can do it even more in the future.”
