Enock Wanyama made his FKF Premier League debut for defending champions Gor Mahia in their Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing of Posta Rangers at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. The January transfer window signing was a second half substitute – coming on for Bryson Wangai, who assisted Benson Omalla’s opener, early in the second half.It was a chance for him to introduce himself to the entire Green Army especially due to the fact that the game was beamed live on television. Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry warns against complacency as league enters homestretch“It was amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it. My teammates and the atmosphere from the crowd was really amazing,” the former Kariobangi Sharks winger told Mozzart Sport. The 22-year-old was chuffed with the warm welcome from the adoring fans who were keen to know him long before his moment of reckoning. “The crowd’s reception when they started asking “Jitambulishe kijana” as I stepped on the field to warm up was awesome.” He added.##NAJAVA_MECA_7918858##Missing a scoring chance notwithstanding, Wanyama, who previously turned out for Taipei-based Leopard Cat FC in the Taiwan Football Premier League, is happy for his contribution leading up to Austin Odhiambo’s second goal.“Winning the ball to set up (Benson) Omala who played it to Austin for his 80th minute goal and a third of the match was special for me. However, I was gutted I did not convert my chance since I had a goal scoring opportunity but the keeper saved it.” Wanyama hopeful of double success in first season with Gor MahiaThe match was Wanyama’s second for K’Ogalo having featured in the disappointing Mozzart Bet Cup loss to Denmak FC in which he missed a penalty, an experience he wants to learn from and improve. “Missing that penalty was actually very devastating. I let the team down because I contributed to putting an end to the team’s objective of winning the cup. What made it even harder is the fact that we really prepared well for the match. The team had everything and we knew ourselves very well because we had friendly games to prepare with. So from the word go, we wanted to win the game,” he opened up, “It turned out to be a wake up call for me that I need to be always ready to do the hard work whenever I am called upon. I’m not a good penalty taker and I was hoping the job would be done before it was my time to step up but in this case it was not. Either way I am still glad I stepped up even though the outcome did not favour me. But going forward I’m definitely will still be stepping up.” He added. He is hopeful for more playing time even as the league haeds towards the last ten games.
