Forgotten left-back Bolton Omwenga has revealed that he was confined to a wheelchair for a while and was warned against playing competitive football after suffering a career-threatening knee injury in 2022.Omwenga hasn’t tasted competitive football since parting ways with Tanzanian Premier League side Kagera Sugar under unclear circumstances in January 2022.His bid to return to the Kenyan top tier after exiting Kagera was scuttled by the fact that he spent the better part of 2022 in the General Service Unit (GSU) Recruits Training School.##NAJAVA_MECA_7929628##Further, he picked up the nasty injury the same year and would go under the knife in July last year to repair multiple tears on the knee.Omwenga revealed that the affected limb was immobile for a while with doctors expressing grave concerns over his ability to kick the ball again at the competitive stage.Omwenga speaks on Kagera exit rumorsHowever, he says there is light at the end of the tunnel as medics have had a change of heart after being impressed with the strides he has made in his rehabilitation.“Life has never been the same since I got injured. So serious was the injury that the doctors concluded that it was impossible for me to play football again. I used a wheelchair for some time. I have clocked more than two years since I last played in a competitive match. I have been silently working on my rehabilitation and hopefully, it will be successful although there are a myriad of medical challenges. Initially, the medics were keen on repairing the torn ligaments but later, nerve issues arose, complicating the recovery process,” he said.Locally, Omwenga has featured for Kariobangi Sharks, KCB, Nzoia Sugar. He has a handful of Harambee Stars call-ups under his belt.
