Kenya Football Coaches Association (KEFOCA) has implemented a ban on chewing miraa and smoking on the bench during matches in an attempt to create a healthy environment on the sidelines. In an exclusive with Mozzart Sport, KEFOCA boss Ricky Solomon was concerned that the prevalent behavior was not compliant with the standards of conduct, and failed to promote a positive environment for players and coaching staff during matches. He noted that it was more common in the lower leagues, warning that any official caught going against the rule would serve as an example.FKFPL Review: Leopards, Gor, Shabana stumble, Tusker, Bandari bullish“It is very disappointing when you see coaches and other officials publicly smoking or chewing miraa on the sidelines. What example are they showing to their charges? We want to send a warning. Anyone seen using the substances will be answerable,” the audibly agitated Solomon said. The former Harambee Stars defender went on to explain that such behavior stood in stark contrast to the fundamental principles of the game, which prioritize discipline, sportsmanship, and a healthy sporting environment.“That not only raises concerns about the physical well-being of those involved but also detracts from the professionalism and focus required in football,” he explained. At the same time, Solomon who doubles up as Bandari FC’s technical director showered praises on his charges after an impressive performance over the weekend. The Dockers defeated log leaders Gor Mahia 1-0 in a closely contested match played at the Mbaraki Stadium on Saturday.##NAJAVA_MECA_7939340##Bandari broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with Fidel Origa netting the lone goal from Nahimana Shasshiri’s precise pass. That impressive performance saw them occupy second place on Saturday. Tusker FC’s win over AFC Leopards forced the Dockers to position three on the log with 43 points, seven points shy of the log leaders Gor Mahia.“The boys did us proud. We were hopeful that they would register good results and they lived up to the standards,” he said. With that performance, Solomon expressed confidence in the team to claim the 2023/24 Kenya Premier League (FKF/PL) title, noting that this was the do-or-die season for them.”In a race, it is not the starter who wins the race. It is the finisher who is crowned the champion,” he said. The Dockers will have some time off for recovery and rest before resuming training in readiness for their round of 25 match against Ulinzi Stars slated for April 6, 2024.
