Senegal’s Jackson an Cole Palmer ease pressure on Pochettino with a win over Newcastle

In recent weeks, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been under severe pressure form the club’s fan base, as the Blues almost certainly will miss European football for the second year in a row. But in strictly statistical terms, Chelsea has been in decent form recently, with only one defeat in the last six games in all competition (0-1 against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final). They managed a draw against Pep Guardiola’s City and won in Birmingham against strong Aston Villa, and tonight they were better than the Magpies and recorded another win: Chelsea – Newcastle 3-2.One thing was certain ahead of this game, and those were goals. The Magpies and the Blues are two of the only four Premier League teams to both score and concede 43+ goals this season, 189 goals in their games combined. They didn’t fail tonight either, as Stamford Bridge crowd saw four goals, out of which two were fantastic ones, volleys from Alexander Isak and Cole Palmer.Isak scores!Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle pic.twitter.com/dyCYHimmud— Mr_GOALS (@EmMrGoalsMyself) March 11, 2024 Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson was the first on the scoresheet with an awkward goal after just five minutes. Palmer’s shot was weak but Jackson’s flick moved the ball to the bottom right corner for a goal. The Magpies pushed forward after that, but lacked quality in the final third. Their 43rd minute goal was the product of a personal brilliance from Alexander Isak, who took the ball at the edge of the penalty area and scored a beauty for Newcastle’s first goal of the match. But instead of keeping with good performance from the first half, the Magpies totally collapsed in the second and allowed Chelsea too much space. The worst possible thing that they could do was to let Cole Palmer be free for a few seconds, and he used that with an Isak-like volley in the 57th minute for the second Chelsea’s lead of the game. It was all over when a substitute Mykhaylo Mudryk scored from a counter attack in the 76th minute. Jacob Murphy sneaked one in near the end of the match, but the home team kept it’s defense tight during all six minutes of stoppage time.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 28SaturdayMan.
