Pull up your socks, Odhiambo tells Homeboyz strikers

Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo has challenged his strikers to pull up their socks, as none of them have found the back of the net so far this year. Homeboyz strikers have had a rough start to the year as they have yet to score either in the league or the Mozzart Bet Cup, in which they are the defending champions. The club heavily relied on Moses Shumah for goals in the first leg of the season, with Ugandan Davies Kasirye and Tanzanian Oscar Adam Paul offering options. Both Paul and Kasirye were loaned out in the mid-season transfer window after failing to live up to expectations, paving the way for fresh blood.Shumah managed to score six goals in the first leg, with his last being in their 2-0 win over Shabana in December last year. The club signed Nicholas Kipkirui and recalled Vincent Ogola and Levis Barasa in a bid to beef up the department, but the trio hasn’t hit the ground running as expected. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7950817##Odhiambo, who ruled out the absence of Barasa, who is out injured, told the rest to step up and inspire the team to comfortable wins in the remainder of the season. “They have to improve. We haven’t been scoring much this year, and often, midfielders have bailed out. We continue to try our best to get the striker firing again, and hopefully they will be sharp enough again,” said Odhiambo. The tactician, however, cautioned the danger men against subjecting themselves to unnecessary pressure. Reacting to the team’s run since the closure of the mid-season transfer window, the former Sony Sugar coach said he was satisfied with the input the new players have had on the team. He said the transfer business the management conducted in the window brought in much-needed balance and competition for the team. “We are a more balanced team with depth in all departments. We lacked options in key areas in the first leg, but I am glad we can compete and sustain a good run,” said the former Gor Mahia assistant coach.
