Henry Meja switches clubs in Sweden

Swedish club AIK has confirmed the loaning out of Kenyan international Henry Meja to third-tier side AFC Eskilstuna for the 2024 season. The former Tusker FC striker, who is out of favor at the club, departs for Eskilstuna for the season. At the club, he links up with compatriot Frank Odhiambo, who is on loan at the club from Djurgadens.##NAJAVA_MECA_7967222##”AIK Football has reached an agreement with AFC Eskilstuna to loan forward Henry Meja Atola for the duration of the 2024 season,” AIK said in a statement posted on their social media handles.According to the club’s sporting director Thomas Berntsen, the decision was made to give the out-of-favor striker playing time.”Meja requires playing time to further his development, and we are confident that he will receive ample opportunities at AFC Eskilstuna,” Berntsen said in an interview with the club’s media.Meja joined AIK in 2022 after one season with Tusker FC, the only club he played for after sitting for his KCSE exams at the record national champions Kakamega High School. In his first season with AIK, he featured in a handful of games before he was confined to the subs bench, and sometimes he had to catch the action from the terrace.Last year, he went out on loan to second-tier side Norrby IF and played 13 games before he suffered an injury setback. In the games played, the Kenyan international found the back of the net 4 times.Meanwhile, it appears as though Collins Sichenje will remain at AIK. The defender was loaned out to Finnish club Kuopion Palloseura last year where he thrived and was named young player of the season at the club. There were suggestions that he would be sent out for another loan deal, but it appears that there has been a rethink on where the former AFC Leopards man will play his football next season, and he is now set to remain with AIK.Another Kenyan, Stanley Wilson, who has been on trial at the club for the last few weeks, is expected to sign his contract once he turns 18 in August.Kenya U20 coach sets eyes on lifting title in Malawi
