Okumu in, four dropped as Harambee Stars travel to Malawi

Reims defender Joseph Okumu has made the cut in the traveling Harambee Stars team set to take part in the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Lilongwe, Malawi.Okumu, who had been out of club action since mid February due to an adductor injury, had been earlier on viewed as a major doubt to travel with the Kenyan team, but on the back of a 28 minute off-the-bench cameo in last weekend’s game against Metz, looked to have convinced enough to have him available. At the same time, head coach Engin Firat, in addition to the late change he made on Wednesday – to bring in Gor Mahia’s Geoffrey Ochieng for injured left back Eric Ouma – has dropped four names.Among the players cut include Murang’a Seal goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa, Shariff Musa of Gor Mahia, Bandari’s David Sakwa, and Dennis Ng’ang’a of Zambia Super League side Zanaco, who was ruled out having sustained a calf muscle injury in recent weeks.#HarambeeStars Travelling Squad pic.twitter.com/YlCFG0ywF9— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) March 20, 2024 The remaining trio bar Ng’ang’a, had all earned their debut call ups to Firat’s team announced last week, but will have to wait much longer to make senior appearances. The good news however, is that other first time call-ups; Chris Erambo (Tusker), Alphonce Omija (Dhofar-Oman) and Kaycie Odhiambo (AFC Leopards) have all been included in the 23-man squad that jetted out of the country early Thursday morning.##NAJAVA_MECA_7968242##Travelling SquadGoalkeepersIan Otieno, Byrne Omondi, Patrick MatasiDefendersJoseph Okumu, Johnstone Omurwa, Alphonce Omija, Collins Sichenje,Daniel Anyembe, Abud Omar, Amos Nondi, Geoffrey OchiengMidfieldersChrispine Erambo, Richard Odada,Kenneth Muguna, Kaycie Odhiambo, Rooney Onyango, Ayub Timbe, Anthony Akumu, Eric JohannaForwardsMichael Olunga, Jonah Ayunga, Benson Omalla, John Avire
