Coach Matano claims credit for two of Harambee Stars’ semifinal heroes

Tusker FC coach Robert Matano had taken credit for the development of two of Harambee Stars’ heroes in the 4-0 win over Malawi Flames in the Four Nations Tournament semifinal in Lilongwe, Malawi, on Saturday evening.Stars registered a comfortable win over the Flames to secure passage to the final where they will play Zimbabwe, who saw off Zambia in the other semifinal match after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.##NAJAVA_MECA_7975734##Several Kenyan players stood out in the game against Malawi. Patrick Matasi in goal put in an assured display and even saved a controversial second-half penalty to preserve his clean sheet.Matasi has been a subject of criticism for some of his displays in the national team colors and did well to remind everyone that he remains the quality keeper he has been in the last decade.Michael Olunga, a player who has been on the spot for scoring much while in national team colors, grabbed a double inside the first four minutes, goals that may hand him the much-needed confidence ahead of the final on Tuesday. The two players were introduced to top-flight football by coach Matano. He signed Matasi from the now-defunct West Kenya Sugar in 2010 for AFC Leopards while he gave Olunga his debut while with Tusker in 2012.NSL: Migori Youth seek redemption against Vihiga Bullets as Silibwet host Mombasa EliteAfter their display on Saturday evening, Matano took time to discuss their quality.“Matasi is very good on penalties. I am the one who brought him to football. He and Olunga are my products; I brought them through from school. They are players I know very well. Matasi, on his day and when he has a good defense, you will see him well. When he is calm, he brings out his A game,” he said during his post-match analysis on KBC Channel One on Saturday night.Matano also rubbished criticism that has been leveled against Stars captain Olunga, saying no Kenyan striker is at the level that he is and just needs support from his teammates to get the goals.“I hear people criticize Olunga; just give him time. I brought him through from Upper Hill High School when I was at Tusker, and he was the top scorer in a junior tournament in Zanzibar. Even right now, no player comes close to Olunga in Kenya. He is just a player that needs service, and today he got that and scored.”Kenya U20 aim for Four-Nation title in Malawi showdown
