Last year in September, Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat shocked the whole country when he revealed that he has not been paid his salary for close to eight months.Firat speaking after leading Stars in a series of friendly matches revealed that he had been sacrificing all along and even his family did not understand why he had agreed to work all that long without pay. Well, seven months later, Firat is now a happy man after the ministry of sports made good its pledge and has cleared his salary arrears to date. A man making sacrifices: Firat admits to getting no pay as Harambee Stars coachAccording to a top official in the ministry, the coach now has no reason to complain after he was paid all the money that he was being owed.“We cleared all the arrears and we are now upto date with his salary. That is why you never hear the coach complaining about his salary. We are committed to ensuring that the coach gets the right environment to work and produce results for the team,” he said.##NAJAVA_MECA_7984644##Initially, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba had last year in June committed to clear the salary arrears of the Turkish coach but days later the government said it would only pay the salary once they have a copy of the contract between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the coach.Firat signed a three contract with FKF last year that will see him earn Ksh 54 million during the period.According to the contract, he is supposed to earn a salary of Ksh 1.5 million per month excluding allowances.Firat won his first trophy with Harambee Stars on Tuesday during a four nation tournament held in Malawi. He is scheduled to lead Stars in the World Cup qualifiers resuming in June with matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast in Nairobi.
