Newly appointed Silibwet Leons head coach Geoffrey Mutai has welcomed his new role at the club and vowed to turn their fortunes around despite a rough National Super League (NSL) campaign.Mutai was appointed two weeks ago to fill the position that has been vacant for over six months following the resignation of Mark Otieno at the start of October 2023.##NAJAVA_MECA_7987583##Silibwet has spent the better part of the season at the bottom of the twenty-team log but Mutai appears to have breath new life into the side that collected maximum points last weekend against Mombasa Elite moving them to nineteenth, two points ahead of bottom-placed Mulembe United and two within the safety region.The expert who doubles up as a lecturer at Moi University understands well the assignment ahead of him but remains adamant he will give it a fight to see the team secure another season in the second tier.“Call me a ‘fighter coach’, we are going to keep the spirit of the players high though it is not easy convincing a group that has tasted defeat more than any other team in the league. It is not a walk in the park,” Mutai told Mozzart Sport.He added, “I need to fight to keep the team in the league.”

The gaffer revealed that he is putting everything in order including implementing changes in training sessions and team organization to ensure they snatch maximum points in all the remaining league games.“I am putting all measures as possible to make sure we collect maximum points in the remaining games both home and away then check the table at the end of the season,” he added.Mutai will be banking on his players’ promises of soldering on and delivering results despite the challenges they are facing at the club.“Players are the main stakeholders, we talked and collectively agreed to search for a turnaround.
