Late stupidity costs Newcastle a deserved win against shy Everton

Newcastle dropped two points on Tuesday night as Eddie Howe’s side conceded late against Everton at St. James’ Park, and it should have ended much differently. The home side was a much better rival than the Toffees, had countless opportunities to double the advantage but paid the price for not finishing the job. They even scored the second, but it was disallowed, and Everton struck late from the spot to grab a much-needed point in their relegation battle. It started marvellously for Newcastle, as Alexander Isak danced his way through the rival’s defence before slotting it low for the opener.Alexander Isak 🇸🇪 now has 15 Premier League goals from 17 starts this season! #NUFC pic.twitter.com/cpudr6pAGX— FtblJoe (@FtblJoe) April 2, 2024 The hosts were so dominant, creating opportunities in both halves, but lacked that second, which would seal the deal. On the other hand, Howe’s sub Dummett made a horrible error, taking down Tielemans in his own box with just two minutes left on the clock.Didn’t expect anything tonight so a point is a bonus. Saturday is the mother of all must win games now.Huge credit to Jordan for keeping us in the game and to Dom for stepping up when it mattered. Special mention also to Paul Dummett for the DDT. Denise would be proud. 🫠😂 pic.twitter.com/5mGFNYsKB7— Blue6oy (@blue6oy) April 2, 2024 It took a VAR check to award it, but the home side could have no complaints. Calvert-Lewin made no mistake from the spot, and first goal since October moves Everton four points clear of the drop zone, while Newcastle are left frustrated.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 31TuesdayNewcastle – Everton 1-1 (1-0)/Isak 15 – Calvert-Lewin 88 pen/Nott.
