WPL: Police out to cement top place as Vihiga play catch-up

There’s no doubt about the quality of football that the Kenya Police Bullets are displaying in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and with four rounds remaining, it would be a surprise if they were to lose the title. So dominant is the Beldine Odemba-led side that they have scored 11 goals more than any other outfit and remain unbeaten after 16 rounds of action. FKF PL: Talanta seek to upset Tusker as Ingwe plot to pile more misery on PostaAs they host Nakuru City Queens at Police Sacco from 11 am, the law enforcers are keen to bag maximum points, a result that would see them needing just a single win in the remaining fixtures to be crowned champions. In their first-leg encounter, Odemba’s charges played for a 2-1 win, a Quinter Owiti goal opening the game for Police before a Melon Mulandi equaliser. Puren Alukwe won in for the law enforcers just before the halftime whistle. It is a relegation battle for Nakuru, meanwhile, with the ninth-placed side keen to bag points that would move them further away from the relegation zone. The updated #FKFWPL top scorers this season! pic.twitter.com/5yQBrnc08l— FKF Women Premier League (@FKF_WPL) April 11, 2024 With two teams, Trans Nzoia Falcons and Gaspo Women, relegated, one more team faces the chop at the end of the season. Soccer Assasins who lost 3-0 to Bungoma Queens on Saturday, occupy the last relegation position on 13 points, two adrift Nakuru and Bungoma, who moved eight after Saturday’s win. Elsewhere, Wadadia host limping Zetech Sparks, the latter coming off a 1-0 loss to defending champions Vihiga Queens. The two sides are separated by a single point, with the hosts sixth on 16 points after 14 matches, one more than the varsity side that has played one more match. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8028183##As for the holders, Vihiga Queens, coach Boniface Nyamunyamu will be keen to keep the slim hopes of defending the title alive when his side faces Bunyore Starlets.  Vihiga are second on the log, nine points behind Police Bullets with two matches in hand. As they pray for a Police slip-up, the four-time champions need to win all their remaining matches to give themselves a chance. Sunday fixturesKenya Police Bullets vs Nakuru City Queens (11 a.m., Police Sacco)Wadadia vs Zetech Sparks (11am- Mumias Complex) Vihiga Queens vs Bunyore Starlets (Noon, Moi Stadium Kisumu)
