UCL: No surprise in Munich, Bayern eliminate Arsenal

On April the 6th, Arsenal defeated Brighton and were at the top of the Premier League. And who would have thought that just 11 days afterwards, the Gunners will face another hopeless season? In the next three games, Mikel Arteta’s men drew at home to Bayern Munich, then lost at home to Aston Villa (and lost the leading position in the league) and tonight they were defeated and eliminated from the Premier League: Bayern Munich – Arsenal 1-0.While there were hope for the Gunners after 2-2 in London, Mikel Arteta’s men failed to produce a similar display in Munich. Without a big scoring chance for 90 minutes, without a shot on target in the whole second half they just couldn’t score, but on the other side they allowed Bayern to score from one half-chance and that was enough for the Bavarians. They are just too experienced for Arsenal. On April 7, 2021, the Munich team lost a Champions League game for the last time in the Allianz Arena and were eliminated in the quarter-finals with a 2-3 win against Paris Saint-Germain. Of Bayern’s last 20 home games in the premier class, just three ended in a draw. And it would need a much stronger team than Arsenal to defeat them. And the soon to be departed Thomas Tuchel suddenly became the only coach (apart from Jose Mourinho) who led three different teams (PSG, Chelsea, Bayern) to the semi-final of the Champions League. 3 – Thomas Tuchel is the first German coach to reach the semifinals of the Champions League with three different clubs (PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich). Unlike the last game between these teams (three goals in the first 45 minutes), the first half of the second tie was a pretty much dull affair. Only two chances (and both not a big ones) were made by the two clubs. There was absolutely no space in the middle of the park. Both sides were doing an excellent job with their pressing and closing down. Musiala threatened from the distance in the 24th minute but Raya was in place, while Odegaard tried the same six minutes later and Neuer made a one-hand save. Finally a proper chance for either side happened at the beginning of the second half, when Goretzka hit the crossbar and the ball bounces away from the goal and came to Guerreiro on the rebound but Saliba blocked it. And just as the teams against started to deny each other, a winning goal was scored. Sane’s initial cross is tipped away by Raya. Guerreiro picked up the loose ball crossed it. Three Arsenal players were standing still but Kimmich flew in and scored a header for the semi-final. UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUEQuarterfinals – second legTuesdayDortmund – Atl.
