SDT awards former Bandari midfielder Douglas Mokaya in excess of a million shillings

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Bandari has been instructed to pay former midfielder Douglas Mokaya Ksh. 1,068,677 for unfair dismissal.Mokaya moved to the Sports Disputes Tribunal after he was unprocedurally axed by the coastal club last year.He sued the club alongside other five players who were also let go before the start of the season.Mokaya who has since rejoined Bidco United initially sought compensation worth two million shillings over the unfair termination of his contract.##NAJAVA_MECA_8063550##During the cross-examination, the midfielder revealed that he learnt of his axing through the former club captain Michael Wanyika.The goalkeeper was reportedly instructed to inform the players, who were in the plans of the technical bench, to resume pre-season.Those who were not in the plan and were further kept in the dark as far as pre-season activities were concerned, suffered the wrath of the axe.Six players sue Bandari over unfair dismissalBefore the termination of the contract, Mokaya was entitled to a monthly salary of Sh.81,000.Bandari have been ordered to pay the left-footed creative midfielder Kshs. 972,000, an equivalent of twelve (12) months’ pay.Additionally, the 2019 cup winners will pay the claimant one month’s salary in lieu of notice of termination, amounting to Kshs. 81,000.Further, the dockers will part with Ksh. 15,677 which is payment for the six (6) days worked in July 2023.Midfielder Douglas Mokaya demanding two million shillings from Bandari for unfair dismissalThe player is entitled to receive interest from the amounts awarded by the Tribunal.Other players who have sued the club are: Keegan Ndemi, Faraj Ominde, Christopher Ochieng, Felix Oluoch, and Johana Mwita.The five were dropped, in disregard to the due process, before the start of the current season alongside Mokaya.
