Sports Kenya have refuted claims going around that FKF Premier League club AFC Leopards have been cleared to use Nyayo National Stadium after settling pending bills.Following the Mashemeji Derby clash on Sunday 21 April, Sports Kenya, the parastatal responsible for national stadia, on Tuesday 30 April sent a letter to AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, asking them to take responsibility and pay for the damages emanating from their fans on the facility.AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia slapped with massive bills after Mashemeji Derby chaosA day later, several online reports indicated that AFC Leopards, through the support Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, had stepped in to pay the amount, clearing them to use the facility henceforth.Indications also pointed towards Ingwe hosting Bandari at the said facility on Sunday afternoon.However, Sports Kenya Public Relations Officer Rakki Asman, speaking to Mozzart Sport on Wednesday, refuted the developments saying: “Nothing like that. The communication to fine AFC Leopards and ban the club from using the facility went out yesterday (Tuesday) and today was a holiday. Let’s wait for tomorrow. Nothing has been cleared yet.”##NAJAVA_MECA_8075732##Sources close to the club also indicate that an Executive Committee meeting was held on Tuesday to help come up with a way of either clearing the full amount, or hatch a payment plan with Sports Kenya that would have allowed them to use Nyayo Stadium till the end of the season.Among the items the clubs needed to pay for included: polycarbonate canopy at players tunnel, four spring-loaded corner flags, four pitch side desks, Sports Kenya telescopic and pitch side banners and eighteen portable plastic chairs.While Gor Mahia’s total cost of repair and replacement was Ksh. 126,500, Ingwe’s was Ksh 505,450, and with it a ban until the full amount is paid.
