It has been an exceedingly frustrating year for the four strikers attached to Kakamega Homeboyz as none of them has found the back of the net either in the league or the Mozzart Bet Cup.Nicholas Kipkirui, Moses Shumah, Levis Okello and Vincent Ogolla have simply been underwhelming this year as the quartet is still waiting for the first goal, five months since the turn of the calendar. The barren run the forwards have been grappling with has given the other on-field players the extra responsibility of scoring goals.Much as it has been frustrating, coach Patrick Odhiambo has jumped to the defence of the four, insisting that they are good enough and it is just a matter of time before they start firing again.##NAJAVA_MECA_8072956##Odhiambo, who won the cup last year with Homeboyz, said he had noted a similar problem with the four and was working round the clock to solve it.“They are doing their best to score goals. The hard work and commitment they put in training makes it difficult to question their attitude and abilities. They are willing to learn and I believe within a short time, they will be back at their best,” said Odhiambo.Pull up your socks, Odhiambo tells Homeboyz strikersThe former Gor Mahia assistant coach also appeared to suggest that both Kipkirui and Okello were still trying to adapt to his coaching philosophy.“Some of the forwards came in the brief window and had little time to adjust to our style of play. They have proven themselves in their previous clubs and I believe they will come good in time,” he claimed. Before the start of the year, Shumah was in the race for the ‘Golden Boot’ having scored six goals. However, the goal dry spell he has experienced in the year appears to have flushed, his dream of adding the top scorer’s award to the Mozzart Bet Cup’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award won last year, down the drain.FKFPL title thirst pushes Kapen out of City Stars as several giants scramble for his signatureThe goal dry spell cost the forward his place in the national team, Harambee Stars as he was overlooked in the past window where Kenya won the Four Nations tournament in Malawi.Odhiambo believes that Shumah’s struggles in front of the goal have been triggered by the expectations everyone at the club and national team have invested in him.“He is a young striker who is in his second season in the top tier. He achieved a lot last year and obviously, he knows that all eyes are on him. He has invited pressure on his side but we are trying our best to help him rediscover his form. He is talented and works very hard,” added Odhiambo.
