Advantage Gor Mahia as Tusker, Police falter in title race

Football Kenya Federation Premier League title hopefuls Police FC and Tusker have shot themselves in their feet after registering unwanted results against AFC Leopards and Nairobi City Stars at Dandora and Police Sacco Grounds respectively.Police, who prior to today’s game were unbeaten since December last year, fell by a solitary goal to AFC Leopards while Tusker surrendered their two-goal advantage to settle for a 2-2 draw with Simba wa Nairobi. The two sides will definitely feel the weight of the points dropped today as their closest challenger to the title, Gor Mahia will only need four points to settle the title race. If Gor manage to garner all the three points when they face KCB tomorrow, the record league champions will leave the two sides holding on hope that football miracles will be in their favour. Victor Omune’s lone goal handed Police their first-ever loss in the year and could be the end of the road for the law enforcers as far as the title race is concerned. Tusker left staggeringThe brewers on the other hand could find themselves out of the race following the unwanted draw against City Stars. The match was off to an unfortunate start as a clash of heads between Erick Kapaito and Wycliffe Omondi halted the proceedings for two minutes as medics attended to the duo. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8103719##Omondi bore the brunt of the collision as, he was treated on the pitch before being ushered to the waiting ambulance for further checks. It took the medics nine minutes to treat the former Migori Youth centre back who emerged from the ambulance with a heavy bandage on his head. Unfortunately for City Stars, Tusker capitalised on their numerical advantage, and the decision by coach Nicholas Muyoti not to replace the injured defender, to grab the lead. Wanyama credits Morocco’s World Cup run for ushering ‘new era of belief’ in African footballThe unmarked Michael Kibwage headed home a corner in the tenth minute to give Tusker the lead at a time when Omondi was waiting for readmission to the pitch after treatment. Kapaito doubled the advantage for Tusker in the 26th minute, rising the highest to head a well-weighted cross by Michael Oduor. Samuel Kapen’s deflected effort in the 74th minute engineered City Stars comeback. Kapen, in acres of space in the box after Vincent Owino picked him, whipped the ball, which took a slight deflection hard, beating Brian Bwire to the far post.FKFPL: Ulinzi Stars overpower Bidco United as Homeboyz effectively relegate Nzoia SugarSecond-half substitute Mohamed Bajaber earned City Stars a point after striking from the spot. The striker got the free hit after Japanese Yuto Kusaba was hacked down in the area in the full glare of centre referee Brooke Philips. The right for the title might have taken an interesting turn today so is the one to beat the drop. Teams battling for their survival produced mixed results with the biggest gainer being the 2009 league champions Sofapaka, who made a significant leap following their 2-1 win over Posta Rangers. Goals from Rodgers Kipkemoi and Darius Msagha secured three vital points for Sofapaka who are out of the danger zone.
