Kisumu All Starlets have made a resounding comeback to the FKF Women’s Premier League after dominating the Women’s Zone B Super League.Starlets- alongside their Zone A counterparts Mombasa Olympic, will both be returning to the top flight. It took the Kisumu giants just under a season and Lydia Ruth knows why.‘’It was a collective decision to not spend a lot of time in the lower tier because we have the quality to play in the top flight,’’ says the attacking midfielder. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8123793##Ruth, one of Coach Juma Saidi’s goal-poachers in the side, was new to the unit when Starlets faced the chop from the premiership and intends to make amends given the experience she has garnered over the past three years with the side.‘’Some of us joined the team during a tough time and had to acclimate quickly. It was not the best of welcomes to the top flight. We, however, put in our best despite being relegated at the end but took a lot of lessons therein,’’ she continues. The side, who had enjoyed an impressive seven-year stay at the top, had suffered financial hiccups with a few of their away games not honored. They, however, return to the top a changed side. ‘’The Super league was a bit kind to us considering we didn’t have to travel long distances to honour games. That, and a very supportive management and fanbase meant we played every single match hence the good results,’’ adds the forward.Kenyan players deserve better: City Stars goalie calls for changeThe side, who host their matches at the Moi Stadium and Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, lost 3-1 to Gene Queens on the final day of the Super League season but had already sealed top spot. They still have one hurdle to overcome in order to be crowned overall Super League champions however. Mombasa Olympic, champions of Zone A, will lock horns with the girls from Kisumu on June 6th in Nairobi- a ground deemed neutral, for championship honours. Ruth salivates at the prospect of a title. ‘’Promotion is one thing, being crowned champion is another. Both matches will be played at the Dandora Stadium on the same day.
