In the third round of the World Cup qualifiers, Cameroon beat Cape Verde 4-1. Already after the first 45 minutes, Cameroon had a 3-1 lead and practically secured the victory. The defenders Michael Ngadeu and Nouhou Tolo scored with beautiful headers, while the captain, Vincent Aboubakar, managed to score a brace. Jamiro Monteiro was the only scorer for the Blue Sharks. After this victory, the Lions moved to the group’s top spot, which should improve the atmosphere in the national team and at least mask the problems surrounding it.Before the duel between Cameroon and Cape Verde, the situation in group D indicated that an interesting match awaited us. The teams had four points each and were behind Libya and Angola on the table but with one game less played. Even though Cameroon was the favourite as one of the best national teams in Africa, everything that happened in the past few weeks regarding the manager Marc Brys and the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) Samuel Eto’o, indicated that Cape Verde surely had a chance today.Eto’o’s warm welcome for new Cameroon manager: no balls, no bus, no supportBoth teams struggled to retain possession during the first 10 minutes of the match, but Cameroon turned the first opportunity into a goal in the 13th minute. Nicolas Moumi Ngameleu sent an excellent cross from the corner kick, and the defender Michael Ngadeu found the back of the net with a perfect header. After that goal, Cameroon completely took control of the game, took advantage of the away team’s confusion and scored their second goal already in the 25th minute. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Ngameleu exchanged passes, the latter one sent another great cross into the penalty box, where the Lions’ captain, Vincent Aboubakar, easily sent the ball into the net with a volley. The only chance of the Cape Verde worth mentioning in the first half was, in fact, a goal they scored in the 37th minute. Bebe sent the excellent pass to space to Jamiro Monteiro, who scored his fifth goal on the national team, giving the Blue Sharks hope of, at least, avoiding the loss. However, only seven minutes later, the scoreboard was showing 3-1 for Cameroon. After a little hesitation, the referee Mustapha Ghorbal from Algeria pointed to the spot after Ngameleu went down in the box. It was an easy task for Aboubakar, who scored his 39th goal on the national team.Goal: Nouhou Tolo | 🇨🇲 Cameroon 4-1 Cape Verde 🇨🇻pic.twitter.com/6yDwAjWuwO— PushGoals (@PushGoals) June 8, 2024 Eight minutes into the second half Mbuemo had a one-on-one situation to score the fourth goal for the Lions, but Vozinha managed to deflect the ball. Cameroon got the corner kick and scored one more time. Ngadeu made the assist this time, and Nouhou was the scorer with a perfect header. This was practically the only goal-scoring opportunity in the second half, until the added time when Ghorbal gave another penalty, this time to Cape Verde after a handball. However, Man United’s André Onana saved Kevin Lenini’s shot from the spot. The ball might have crossed the line after Onana’s deflection, but the referee’s decision was that it was no goal.Interesting incident that happened in the last moments of the Cameroon – Cape Verde match. Cameroon is now a leader of Group D, while Cape Verde remains in the fourth spot. In the next round on Tuesday, Cameroon will play against Angola, and Cape Verde will host Libya.##NAJAVA_MECA_8151609##
