Gor Mahia appoints Martins Neiva as new head coach

Twenty-one time FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have officially unveiled Leonard Martins Neiva as their new coach for an undisclosed period.Neiva, 46, is a Brazilian Pro License football coach and former Brazilian footballer, who comes in to replace the exiting Johnathan McKinstry.##NAJAVA_MECA_8186095##McKinstry left his role as Gor Mahia head coach at the end of the 2023-24 season for a national team role with The Gambia, having won two consecutive league titles while in charge.Joining Neiva in his new-look technical bench will be Sofapaka head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, who is expected to come in as the assistant coach.Also on the bench will be Michael Nam, expected to retain his role as one of the assistants.🟢 | ANNOUNCEMENT Leo Neiva from Brazil is our new head coach; the ex-Vipers, Young Africans and Al-Merrikh coach will be assisted by our former player and coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam.Welcome to Mahia Neiva. #Sirkal | #GorFansClub pic.twitter.com/eXdoLch4NO— GOR MAHIA FC (@OfficialGMFC) July 1, 2024 Neiva, whose 17-year career includes stints with national teams and clubs all over the world, comes with a stacked resume.Neiva started his career as an assistant coach for América FC in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, before taking over youth sides Platinum Stars FC (South Africa) and Yadanarbon FC (Myanmar) in a two-year period that was only sandwitched by an U20 coaching role at Bonsucesso-RJ.Between 2011 and 2020, Neiva also managed Rakhine United, Associacao Atletica Francana, Montego Bay United.The standout job in that time frame, however, was his role with Tanzanian club Young Africans, which he led to winning the 2014/15 Super Cup and the Tanzania Premier League title.In Africa, the Brazilian also managed Sudanese giants Al Merrikh for a short season, before managing Ugandan side Vipers from July to December 2023.His national team coaching job was with CONCACAF representatives Saint Kitts and Nevis, guiding them to an unprecedented classification for the second round of the Qatar World Cup Qualifiers.His work at Gor Mahia is set to begin immediately, as the club scouts for new players this off-season.Gor Mahia set to acquire two foreign players in off-season transfer window
