Hussein Mohammed, the founder of Extreme Sports and vice chairman of Murang’a Seal, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Barry Otieno. The lawsuit represents an escalation in the ongoing battle against what Hussein terms as ‘impunity and unprofessionalism’ within the country’s football governing body.Court documents obtained by Mozzart Sport indicate that the lawsuit centers around a contentious letter from the FKF CEO dated March 11, 2024, which barred Hussein from attending the FKF Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the grounds that he was not a member of the football federation.##NAJAVA_MECA_8191985##The AGM, however, did not take place after the High Court in Mombasa halted the event following an injunction sought by Coast Region NEC Member Gabriel Mughedi.”We are in receipt of your correspondence dated March 5, 2024, nominating Mr. Hussein Mohammed as Murang’a Seal FC’s delegate to the upcoming congress. Following a comprehensive review of the registration documents and other details regarding Murang’a Seal in compliance with Article 1.02 and 1.03 of the FKF Club Licensing Regulations and Article 54 and 55 of the CAF Men’s Club Licensing Regulations (2022), we would like to inform you that Mr. Hussein Mohammed is not registered with FKF,” read part of Otieno’s letter to Murang’a.Hussein’s legal team alleges that the letter implies their client is a fraud and con artist misrepresenting his interest in football. They argue that the letter portrays Hussein as untrustworthy, unethical, incompetent, dishonest, selfish, and lacking dignity. They further contend that the letter led to mockery, ridicule, and contempt on social media platforms.”Hussein Mohammed’s lawsuit against Barry Otieno is a clarion call for accountability within FKF. It sends a clear message that the days of using office to intimidate and threaten are over. The narrative is shifting towards demanding transparency and integrity from those in power. The bold move by Hussein highlights the urgent need for reform and the importance of holding leaders accountable for their actions,” reads a press statement from Hussein’s camp.AFC Leopards join Tusker, KCB in race to sign highly rated Division One winger”The current FKF leadership has also been accused of deliberately delaying FKF elections, despite their illegal occupancy of office. The protection they have received from CS Ababu Namwamba has only served to embolden their corrupt practices. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has provided the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) with substantial evidence of Nick Mwendwa’s corruption, particularly the misappropriation of funds meant for the renovation of stadiums. Yet, this case remains unprosecuted, adding to the long list of grievances against FKF’s leadership.”Hussein and his legal team seek general damages, aggravated or exemplary damages, and the costs of the suit.In addition to Otieno, Hussein has also sued FKF media officer Ken Okaka for defamation through blog posts published on a Kenyan news website and Okaka’s subsequent social media platforms.
