Mozzart Bet Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) David Owino is happy to be back playing in midfield after featuring as a left-back for all his top-flight career until this season when Kenya Police FC’s technical bench decided to move him back to midfield, his original position.Owino starred as a left-back at Mathare United and KCB FC, and even in his first two seasons with Kenya Police. However, early this season, he was moved back to the middle of the park, a position he played in his formative years. He has flourished, leading to his recognition as the Mozzart Bet Cup MVP.##NAJAVA_MECA_8198426##The player is glad to be back in midfield and is grateful to former Police FC coach Zdravko Logarusic for initiating the move and to current coach Salim Babu for keeping him in that position.”It is not a new position for me. I was a midfielder, but when I joined Mathare after school, coach Francis Kimanzi made me a left-back,” Owino recalls. “I thank God because Logarusic took me back to midfield, and when coach Babu took over, he retained me in that position. It was more about trusting myself. Football is all about technical ability, and when you are technically good, you can play in any position.”He credits his good displays in midfield to his teammate Patillah Omoto, who keeps encouraging and advising him, and defender Eric Juma, who has also been supportive. Although the two have not played much this season, off the field they have been aiding arguably Police’s player of the season.Victor Omune sends message to AFC Leopards fans after underwhelming season“I have always been asking Patillah a lot of questions because he is a very good midfielder. It has been my prayer for a long time that I get to play with him in midfield someday. He has really helped me in this team alongside Omore (Eric). When I don’t perform well, he advises me on what to work on, and when I am doing well, he gives me a pat on the back and encourages me to keep going.”Winning the Mozzart Bet Cup helped the law enforcers qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup for next season, and Owino terms it a dream come true, with the dream now being to qualify for the group stage.”I had always dreamt of playing in a CAF competition, and for me, this is a dream come true. I am excited,” he says.”Now that we have qualified, the aim is to go out there and compete. We do not want to just participate but go out there, give our best, and hopefully get a group stage ticket. We want to reach the group stage in the competition and from there, see how far we can go.”FKF Division Two: Soy United to face Hillside in Western mini league decider
