Kenyan midfielder Lorna Nyabuto on Tuesday took to social media to narrate her story at Albanian side FK Apolonia, where she says she dealt with racism and late payments, forcing her to flee the club.Nyabuto, 23, joined the Albanian team on what was a one-year deal, and having featured in the local scene for quite some time, took the offer to play internationally as she ‘knew her life trajectory would take a better shape’.Instead, things turned out worse for her in the first year, forcing her to seek the intervention of the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association, to escape a place she referred to as ‘not worth it’Harambee Starlets striker Marjolen Nekesa accuses agent of fraud“Traveled to Albania and got there safely, but all wasn’t as said on the contract,” Nyabuto, a former Vihiga Queens player wrote. “It felt nice traveling but my expectations were too high, I thought it would change my life.“Yes we want to change our lives and make something out of it by being different but some places aren’t worth it.“Racism was my challenge and late payments too. I had to try to make a difference by performing though they didn’t appreciate all my efforts on the pitch.”

Nyabuto added that after her one year at the club – where she helped her team to not only clinch the Albania Super Cup, but also secure a second-place finish in the league – she felt uncomfortable, to the extent that ‘nothing about the club could change my mind for me to renew my contract because I didn’t want to’.She opted to return to Kenya.“After we were done with the season I was held by the club so that I won’t make it back home,” she added. “I spoke to one of my friends and he made me reach KEFWA and talk to them about my situation. “The only option I had was to pay for a flight for myself. So I used the amount that I had to return to my country.”##NAJAVA_MECA_8203995##On how she adapted to life in Albania, she said: “I stayed in a club house but I wasn’t comfortable because of the issues we had with the other girls. You had to prepare your food in the morning so that you can manage all day. Imagine taking cold food everyday. “No one wanted to see you perform, though I had people to talk to who made me feel relieved, alive, and they encouraged me. At times I felt depressed and discriminated against, but I had to focus on the price and work hard every day.”Advising her fellow players planning to travel abroad, she concluded: “When you are given a contract, make sure you can read it so that you may know the clauses in it. Because they (FK Apolonia) said that I had a three-year contract, and I didn’t want to renew it.” Tennis Kenya Secretary General goes hard at ITF for disheartening Okutoyi appeal decision
