The last Roman emperor is gone

Over the past decades – even though they mostly couldn’t reach the level of the giants from the north like AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan – the Roman giants, Lazio and especially Roma, have had many iconic players. Some names that come to mind are the Prince of Rome, Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi, and Alessandro Florenzi, who all represented the Giallorossi, whereas the sky-blue part of Rome had Ciro Immobile. We say “had” because the iconic No. 17, the last Roman emperor, leaves for the Turkish side, Besiktas, and thus leaves the Eternal City without a single legend.Ciro Immobile 📸 pic.twitter.com/hq6XPtkmJe— FutbolArena (@futbolarena) July 12, 2024 And while Roma’s management practically chased away and got rid of their legends, Immobile decided to leave on his own. Even though he spent “only” eight years with the club, the 34-year-old left a mark wearing Lazio’s jersey and became the best scorer in the club’s history with 207 goals. Apart from that, he was the Capocannoniere (top scorer) of Serie A three times and holds the record for the most goals scored in one season (36), together with Gonzalo Higuain. In the 2019/2020 season, Immobile won the European Golden Boot award. And, although 34 years old, he would’ve had much influence on the Italian attack had he been capable of playing at the EURO 2024.Tell no one… One European giant wants us both! The forward signed a two-year deal with Besiktas and will have an annual salary of 6 million euros, compared to the 4 million he had at Lazio. He joined the Italian club in 2016 after disappointing spells with Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla. Despite he had been both Serie A and Serie B top scorer, Lazio paid only 8.5 million euros for Immobile’s transfer, and he has paid off handsomely. But now, it’s time to say Arrivederci and focus on a new challenge, in new colours, in front of a new crowd.##NAJAVA_MECA_8212535##
