FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards have confirmed that attacker Ronald Sichenje has signed a two-year contract extension with the club. The Aspire Academy graduate’s contract with the club was set to expire in a few weeks, and the club has now moved to hand him a new deal, ending speculation of him leaving this window.##NAJAVA_MECA_8213802##“AFC Leopards is delighted to announce that utility player Ronald Sichenje Bebeto has extended his contract for 2 years,” read the club statement in part. The Kakamega High School alumnus, who at some point trained with Spanish giants Barcelona’s youth team, signed for AFC Leopards in 2022 but couldn’t feature in his first season as the club was serving a transfer ban. After half a season of training without playing football, he was loaned to Mathare United for the second part of the 2022-23 campaign. He got the much-needed minutes at Mathare before returning to the den, where he was eventually registered after the transfer ban was lifted.Last season, he barely featured in matches for the better part of the season. He alternated between a spot on the bench and on the terrace, getting limited minutes here and there. Towards the end, coach Tomas Trucha started to show faith in him, handing him more playtime. He featured for a paltry 443 minutes all season, which translates to less than five full matches.“I am grateful to be part of the club, and I always feel at home; that’s why I renewed my contract, and I am happy I made that decision. My target is to have more minutes of playing time and be the best version of myself. I am also looking forward to scoring goals and assists,” the left-footed attacker said after signing his contract with the club.Gor Mahia set to open Coal City Cup campaign against seven-time Brazilian champions“The first two years at AFC Leopards have been impeccable. Though in every situation, we always have ups and downs. I didn’t feature for the club in my first season because of a registration hitch, but I was cleared in the second season,” he added.Despite being a winger, AFC Leopards head coach deployed him in the full-back role in the final matches of the 2023/24 season and the player appears to enjoy the new role.“It was a nice experience being deployed in an unfamiliar fullback position in a few matches. Regardless of the position, I will fight for any position given to me by the coach. Any time given to me will be a great opportunity to prove my worth in the team.”Ingwe resumed training on Monday morning in readiness for the new campaign.Head coach Collins Omondi reveals what cost Naivas in the playoffs
