Kenyan International striker Jentrix Shikagwa has praised the Junior Starlets for their qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification.The Harambee Starlets’ forward has gone ahead to term it as a door opener for women football and footballers in the country to other parts of the world.Junior Starlets booked their spot in the world tournament after defeating Burundi 2-0 on 16 June at Ulinzi Sports Complex courtesy of goals from Marion Serenge and Valarie Nekesa to make 5-0 on aggregate.Gor Mahia star reveals flocking offers after starring at COSAFA CupThis qualification created history as it is the first time a Kenyan football team has qualified for the World Cup. The U-17 World Cup will be held from 16 October to 4 November in the Dominican Republic.Shikagwa believes that this qualification will do wonders for women football in the country by putting a spotlight into the country’s women players“First of all I want to congratulate the Junior Starlets for that great achievement. I am so proud of them and so is the country at large. I believe most of them will find better opportunities in some of the best leagues and clubs who will be scouting for young players in the tournament. Additionally, this will make teams gain interest in Kenyan footballers and that will open more doors for women footballers,” added ShikagwaFurther, Shikagwa believes that the net effect would be the competitive growth of the Harambee Starlets if the country has more professional footballers playing in the best teams and leagues across the globe.“When we have many players playing in the best leagues, our national team becomes more competitive in the continent and the world to challenge for even bigger titles.
