Veteran coach Robert Matano says he is back at Sofapaka to win titles after sealing a return to the club on a short-term deal.Matano returned to Sofapaka on Monday, over a decade since he led the team to a league title on their first attempt after their promotion to the top tier. The 2009 league title remains Sofapaka’s sole league trophy. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8225555##Sofapaka moved swiftly to sign Matano after he left Tusker FC last week. This came after his six-year stay was ended with the non-renewal of his contract. In his first interview with the club’s media, Matano made it clear that he is at the club to win more silverware.”The players I had then (2009)were not as good as the ones I now have in the team, so I’m optimistic this team will win titles. I’m a winner; my target is also to replicate the performance here,” he said.He does not think that leaving Tusker for Sofapaka is a step back. “I’m a qualified coach and joining Sofapaka is not a backward step in my profession. I coached the team from the second tier and led it to its first title in its first season in FKF-PL in 2009. Sofapaka is not a small team. Even ‘Zico’ (Zedekiah Otieno), who is a respected coach, was here. Was he coaching a small team?” Sofapaka has struggled with financial issues in recent years, leading to departures and a not-so-good run, culminating in their playing in the playoff against Naivas to secure their top-flight stay just weeks ago but the coach is not bothered by that. “I don’t care whether Sofapaka is grappling with financial challenges or not. What is important is for me to practice my coaching and build the team. No coach goes to a team to joyride but to win titles.”FKF launches FIFA women’s football and schools program in Embu
