Gor Mahia sweep key FKFPL awards in end of season gala

Gor Mahia creative midfielder Austin Odhiambo was named the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation’s Most Valuable Player(MVP).His teammates and former coach also scooped awards on a night where outstanding performers were awarded.Here are the FKFPL winners in the concluded season.GOLDEN GLOVEKevin Omondi is the best goalkeeper in the concluded season.The shot-stopper kept 21 clean sheets in the 31 matches he featured for record league champions Gor Mahia. Omondi joined Gor last year from Sofapaka and was to deputise, the then first-choice shot-stopper, Gad Mathews.However, an injury that forced the latter to go under the knife before the start of the campaign, saw the former Wazito man cement his place in the Gor Mahia’s first eleven.K’Ogalo had the meanest defence in the season as the team conceded 20 goals in the 34 matches played.Both Patrick Matasi (Kenya Police) and Levis Opiyo(AFC Leopards) finished the season with 14 clean sheets.Matasi played 31 matches while Opiyo manned the Ingwe goal in 23 matches.GOLDEN BOOT19 goals were enough for Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala to clinch the top scorer’s award in the season.The award will definitely come as a consolation to Omala, as he missed the ‘Golden Shoe’ in the 2022-2023 season by the barest of margins, as a single goal separated what was an epic race between him and Elvis Rupia.Immediate former Kenya Police striker Tito Okello finished the season with 16 goals, a tally similar to that of immediate former Kariobangi Sharks goal poacher John Mark MakwataCOACH OF THE YEARFormer Gor Mahia tactician Johnathan McKinstry was named the best coach in absentia.
