Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is grateful after winning the Golden Boot for the 2023-24 season. Omala was crowned the winner on Friday night during the FKF Gala.He scored 19 goals last season, three more than John Makwata of Kariobangi Sharks and Tito Okello of Kenya Police FC. The pair have since left their respective clubs.##NAJAVA_MECA_8235053##In an interview, Omala expressed his delight at bagging the Golden Boot and credited his teammates and everyone within the club for making it possible. “It was a tough, long season. Competition was high, but my determination and hard work gave me this trophy. I am grateful to my teammates, the technical bench, and the supporting staff for the support they accorded me; they made this possible,” he stated. In the 2022-23 season, Omala narrowly lost the boot to Elvis Rupia, then of Kenya Police FC. Despite leading the race for the better part of the season, he slipped, allowing Rupia to win the boot with 27 goals compared to his 26.He says the disappointment from the previous season motivated him to set a goal of winning the boot in the just-concluded campaign.“The difference between the finished season and the previous one is that I finished the season badly. I started well, but towards the end, I had a bad run and lost the award by just one goal. Nonetheless, it was a good learning experience. In the 2023-24 season, I set a target of winning the Golden Boot and worked hard to be a little more consistent, and that made the difference,” Omala explained.Regarding his future with Gor Mahia, the former Western Stima man admitted that he could be on his way out of the club. “Anything can happen right now. The offers have started flocking in, and now it is a matter of sitting down and choosing the best option for me, so it is possible that I could leave Gor Mahia,” he concluded.Kenya Police suffer defeat at hands of Uganda’s Vipers SC in friendly match
