Jhonattan Vegas and Max Greyserman took care of business in Minnesota.
Vegas captured his fourth Tour victory at the 3M Open and rookie Greyserman had his best finish as a professional as both jumped into the FedEx Cup top 70. That means they’re projected in the field for the playoffs, which begin in two weeks in Memphis. Up first, however, is one final event for players to earn their way into the postseason.
The race for the playoffs is on, as players jockey for spots in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings to secure a spot in the FedEx St. Jude Championship next month in Memphis. This is the second year only 70 players reach the first playoff event, unlike previous years when 125 made the playoffs.
The top 50 players after the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 15-18 will qualify for the BMW Championship at Castle Pines on August 22-25 in Colorado, then the top 30 will head to Atlanta and East Lake for the Tour Championship on August 29-Sept. 1.
This week the PGA Tour is on a break for the Olympics, but next week the Wyndham Championship is the final event of the regular season and last chance for players to make it into the playoffs.
Here’s a closer look at some interesting names in the FedEx Cup points standings, including some who have work to do to stay in the top 70 and others who need to make a push to reach Memphis.
