Nairobi City Stars youngster, Obusu ready for FKFPL breakthrough

Nairobi City Stars’ young left-back Rogers Wasega Obusu believes he’s shaken off naivety and is ready to delve into the Premier League ahead of the 2024-25 FKF Premier League, which gets underway in three weeks’ time.Obusu was acquired from Laiser Hill Academy during the mid-season transfer window but did not make any appearances for the club as Dennis Wanjala, who has since moved to Tusker FC, was preferred in that position. He earned a place on the bench in three games against Shabana, Bandari, and Gor Mahia.##NAJAVA_MECA_8242058##With Wanjala gone, he is the only natural left-back left in the team, which could present him with an opportunity to feature more—a chance he intends to grab.In an interview with the club website, the youngster admitted that his first days at the club were tough as he could not keep up with the intensity of the training, being accustomed to light training in school.“At the beginning, training was somehow very exhausting because I was only used to light training. I experienced a whole new challenge due to the intensity compared to what I got in high school,” he said.Francis Kimanzi set for first job abroad after agreeing terms with Tanzanian teamHe added that being on the bench against Shabana, Bandari, and Gor Mahia, despite not taking to the pitch, was mind-opening for him.“Sitting on the bench in those games gave me a hint of what the top flight is all about. Even without getting to the pitch, you feel that it’s a whole new level and experience,” he added.“During the final days of the season, I had adapted to the system, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get a chance to make that debut.”On the upcoming season, the speedy fullback says he is ready to step up and give his best. “I am now more than ready for the upcoming season. I believe I am going to be the main character in the team. Expect lots of assists from me,” he added.STARS ABROAD: Wanyama watches on as Montreal close in on League Cup knockout stage
