Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa is confident that newly appointed head coach Robert Matano can inspire them to their second FKF Premier League title.Matano, who returned to the club two weeks ago, became the first coach in Kenyan history to win the Premier League title in his first season after being promoted from the second tier.Since then, Batoto ba Mungu has not won the title, but Kalekwa believes the experienced coach can help them rediscover their form from 15 years ago.“When I have a teacher who has experience and has formed his own team without interference, and as you know, a man who hates defeat, I’m confident.“What he did in 2009 with this team can be replicated, I believe so. There is a lot of hope going into next season. We are thinking of the title, yes, no doubt about that,” Kalekwa said.Matano opens up on Tusker’s win over marauding AFC LeopardsOn why he chose Matano, the club boss said, “You know Robert Matano is very experienced and has a rich history with Sofapaka. “Everywhere he has gone, he has left a mark just as he started with Sofapaka by gaining promotion to the Premier League and winning the league title the same year,” underlined Kalekwa.“We had never finished below fourth position since we were promoted until 2016. The fact that we have not finished in good positions for only three years and had 12 years of brilliance does not mean that we have dropped.”STARS ABROAD: Joseph Okumu clocks 90 as Stade de Reims suffers defeat in JapanHe added that the team is working on securing a shirt sponsor before the start of the new campaign.“We have been operating without a shirt sponsor, which has been tough for us. But we are hoping to land a sponsor which will help us return to where we belong among the top teams,” concluded Kalekwa.Interestingly, Matano’s second tenure at Sofapaka starts with a clash against former bosses Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday 24 August.##NAJAVA_MECA_8250646##
