Why Mulembe United rebranded to Vihiga United

Mulembe United Secretary General James Saisi has revealed why the club rebranded back to its original name, Vihiga United less than nine months after changing its name.Mulembe initially operated as Vihiga United for more than five seasons.This is not the first time the team has changed its name, as the National Super League (NSL) outfit was originally known as Vihiga United, a name it received while enjoying sponsorship from the County Government of Vihiga.Exit Vihiga United, enter Mulembe United Football ClubSpeaking to Mozzart Sport, the club boss disclosed that the name change was initiated to meet the Club Licensing criteria.”We requested the federation to revert to our name, Vihiga United, and we expect the request to be accepted soon. The club’s name change is prompted by the recent Club Licensing requirements.”Starting registration using the Mulembe United name was going to be a big task for us, and it could take much time, which meant that we were going to face demotion. “But Vihiga had everything prepared. We only need to upload our players’ contracts and medical cover, and we are set to go,” Saisi said.He added, “Vihiga has some sort of identity, and we feel the name will give the team a chance to pursue and engage potential sponsors who would like to be part of the club’s progress.”Saisi further revealed the club has an existing agreement with Vihiga Queens to be their women’s side but could not confirm if the same will apply in the next campaign.Masinza eyeing full breakthrough in the new seasonHe clarified that Vihiga will not make any adjustments to its managerial structure but is uncertain about the presence of club patron Cleophas Malala.”I would like to notify the public and lovers of the club that the management will remain the same.
