Alfred Chole reveals why he left APS Bomet coaching role

Fast-rising coach Alfred Chole has explained his motive behind the shock exit from National Super League (NSL) returnees APS Bomet.Chole, who took the helm at Black Berets at the start of the 2023/2024 season, was tasked with guiding the Bomet County-based team back to the second tier.In his first assignment as a coach in a competitive league, the former Oserian striker made Bomet IAAF Stadium a fortress for visiting teams, earning points from almost every opponent.##NAJAVA_MECA_8256725##The season ended with Chole securing promotion to the NSL with two games remaining, beating Michael Olunga Football Academy and Compel FC to the prestigious slot. However, to the surprise of many second-tier football loyalists, the Black Berets had a new coach when the team resumed pre-season training last week.Former Mwatate United, Vihiga Bullets, and Silibwet Leons coach Evans Mafuta has been tasked with leading the team in the NSL and the FKF Premier League. The team missed this achievement three seasons ago after earning qualification, but the 2020–2021 season was voided and nullified since it ran under the FKF Caretaker Committee.Speaking exclusively to Mozzart Sport, the ex-Fortune Sacco goal poacher cited disrespect within the team and a spirit of adventure as reasons for considering his options.”There’s no age limit in coaching. It is embarrassing when someone demotes you to the position of assistant coach because of your young age. Football is not about age but about tactics. The treatment from APS Bomet management was not appealing at all. After I saw they had brought someone I was supposed to work under, despite guiding them to the NSL, I knew it was time to try elsewhere,” Chole told Mozzart Sport.Full list of 49 Kenyan coaches with CAF A license revealedHe added, “Football is about progress. How will a coach progress by working under others? I want to have a unique identity as a person and as a coach, which is why I decided to find a new home and leave my mark there.”Chole is not new to the APS family. Initially, in the 2020–2021 season, he was part of Benedict Wanjala’s backroom staff that assembled a team that won the championship and earned a ticket to the FKF Premier League. The CAF C coaching license holder, currently undertaking the CAF B coaching badge, affirms that there is no bad blood between him and his former employers. He urged them to give opportunities to young coaches and treat them with the dignity they deserve.”This is football, and such things are normal. APS is my home; they ushered me into coaching life, and I will always wish them well. They need to treat people equally and accord them respect if they want to be among the best teams in the country,” he said.Engin Firat on how Harambee Stars will benefit from Anthony Akumu’s move to IranDespite not disclosing his next move, sources understand that Chole will be linking up with Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) upon completing paperwork before the end of the week.
