To be a football (or any other sports) executive, one needs to be an expert in football (or any other sport) but he also needs to have communication skills. Former Arsenal director Sven Mislintat clearly doesn’t have the latter. The German executive is on the brink of (another) sack, just two and a half months after coming back to Borussia Dortmund. In fact, his whole career seems to be one big sack. The squad planner started with BVB in 2006 as a scout and rose quickly to the ranks especially after players like Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, Aubameyang and Hummels were signed under his watch. But problems arose when Thomas Tuchel came in in 2016, and after one year, Mislintat didn’t get the sack but was banished from the club’s training ground by Tuchel and was forced out. Arsenal’s 2017-2019 era finished with a 148 million lossAnd while Tuchel is not known to be a people person anyway, new Borussia coach Nuri Sahin is very popular within the club, and he managed to anger him within months. The “Ruhr-Nachrichten” and the “WAZ” first reported on the ‘incident’ but neither the club nor the men wanted to speak publicly about it. The list of Mislintat’s mistakes is big. He is currently with the team at the preparations and he recently ran onto the pitch during a training session in kicked in front of TV cameras, Sahin is said to have freaked out and the club issued him a warning. Mislintat’s appearances during the training sessions have also been a topic of discussion within the team. His “dominant demeanor” during the meetings is also something which seems to be the problem. Former Arsenal director is under sports director Sebastien Kehl in Dortmund’s hierarchy but, according to the reports, repeatedly tried to go it alone with transfers and has approached external players himself. He was also very critical of the transfer of Yan Couto from Manchester City and did not want the player, but Kehl and future CEO Lars Ricken prevailed. Mislintat also gave two interviews for Sky Sports Germany during pre-season, which nobody knew about, including his superiors. Dortmund sign City’s right back on a loanHis ‘intrusion’ with other people’s authority was well documented in Ajax, where he also got the sack. The Dutch giant launched an investigation into Mislintat after the club recruited a player on transfer deadline day through an agent’s office, which owns shares in Mislintat’s private company. Several rumours and reports have swirled around the media since about disagreements between Sven Mislintat and other staff members at Ajax. So, after just 166 days in charge, he was sacked. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8256634##
