Chelsea embarrass themselves in Geneva, but qualify on aggregate

Since Enzo Maresca came to take over Chelsea and make them look like Manchester City, one thing is certain – there will be goals in their net. Whoever out of nine goalkeepers is between the sticks, the Blues will allow at least one goal. Out of the eight games so far under Maresca (friendlies included), Chelsea made it with clean sheet only twice, against America and Servette, in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League qualifications playoff. In every other match they surrender at least once, and tonight in Geneva, they nearly embarrassed themselves: Servette – Chelsea 2-1.Servette vs. Chelsea [2] – [1] All goals Highlights 💫 pic.twitter.com/ogG6pKgL1B— 曼联球迷 (@utdbaki) August 29, 2024 Playing in Geneva for the first time since 1946, the Blues were absolute favorites not only due to their statue, but the quality of the squad, the team‘s depth, the result of the first leg (2-0) and the impressive 6-2 away win in Wolverhampton a couple of days before. Instead of finishing the second game with easy, especially since Maresca came out with a strong squad (Madueke, Enzo, Mudryk, Nkunku), Chelsea allowed to be defeated and had to treble in the last minutes when Servette had a chance to take the game into overtime.#SERCHEServette did everything wild on and off the pitch tonight to stop Chelsea going through to the group stages but a resilient Chelsea team qualified anyway…You love to see it💯💯 pic.twitter.com/Dd7dWfi3Z6— HARMLESS GUY 🇷🇼🇺🇬🇺🇬 (@harmlessguy33) August 29, 2024 Enco Fernandez has a good chance after only four minutes, but his strike was saved by the Servette goalkeeper. The next interesting thing was a penalty 10 minutes later. Veiga brought Mudryk down and Christopher Nkunku was precise with the ball for the lead. But from their first chance of the match, the hosts equalized. It was their best player Kutesa in the 32nd minute who went through Chelsea midfield with ease and assisted to Guillemenot for 1-1. Servette nearly turned the game over completely two minutes before the break, but Kutesa‘s shot was saved by Jorgensen. And instead of finishing the game in the second half, the Blues allowed Servette to play the best they could and the second goal came in the 73rd minute, with just enough time to boost the home crowd. After Crivelli‘s goal, the hosts needed just one more to take the game into overtime. Jackson provided a cold shower at the stadium with his goal in the 77th minute, but VAR overturned it quickly. Criveli nearly got the second minutes after and Maresca had to rely on Cole Palmer to score a much needed second goal. The England international hit the bar once and assisted to both Nkunku and Jackson, but they both missed. Luckily for Chelsea so did the home team players and the Blues have qualified for the only tournament they haven‘t won so far. But the problems in defense remain.##NAJAVA_MECA_8298146##
