- British No 1 wins 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 in US Open fourth round
- ‘I feel amazing. It means the world to me,’ says Draper
In the midst of his first full, healthy year on the ATP tour, Jack Draper has been trying to find his identity on the tennis court. At 6ft 4in, the 22-year-old British No 1 towers over so many of his adversaries and he can overpower them. But he is also an excellent athlete and a strong returner, qualities that not all players of his stature possess.
After playing with greater clarity over the past few months, in the biggest match of his career to date Draper found the perfect balance to see him through. He continued his breakout run at the US Open with a demonstration of his composure and mental toughness under pressure, neutralising a volatile Tomas Machac to reach his first grand slam quarter-final with a supreme 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 win.
