If you think professional footballers are having the time of their lives with all the money and privileges that go with it, think again…They are being pushed beyond their limits, as FifPro’s player workload monitoring report reveals. Over half of the 1,500 players monitored last season faced high workload demands, with many of them playing more than 55 games in a season. Moreover, it’s been especially challenging for those who play for their national side as they have to travel a lot more than their colleagues. For instance, Tottenham and Argentina defender Cristian Romero spent 211 hours and flew more than 162,000km on cross-border flights during the 2023-24 season. This means he spent more than a week travelling internationally, covering almost half the distance to the Moon across 26 international trips!Que lindo vivir todo esto Un sueño Gracias 🇦🇷 por todo el cariño 🤍💙 pic.twitter.com/N8s3jFHPFW— Cuti Romero (@CutiRomero2) September 6, 2024 His Argentina teammate Julian Alvarez, who spent last season with Manchester City, made 75 appearances for club and country last season, including the Copa America and Olympic Games. Phil Foden, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are not far behind him on that list.FifPro concluded that the increasingly packed calendar had left some players with as little as 12% of the year to rest, equivalent to one day off per week.##NAJAVA_MECA_8318224##
