Dovbyk finally scores but Roma is still winless

Roma’s biggest off season acquisition and La Liga revelation in Girona Artem Dovbyk had to wait four games, or 307 minutes for his debut goal for Roma. But those 10 minute wait while VAR was checking his potential goal looked more like 500 minutes. And when the referee pointed to the center of the field, the whole Roma bench came over to congratulate their new striker on the potential winning goal. And it looked liked that until the 96th minute when Roma defense finally surrendered and were deprived of all three points in the last attack of the game. With a new transfer policy, new aquisitions and the first full pre season under coach Daniele De Rossi, the Giallorossi are still winless after four games, and what’s also more worrying – they scored only two goals in that period. It was then time for Dovbyk and El Shaaraway to try their luck, but Genoa keeper Gollini stopped both shots. But, in the 37th minute, it finally happened. Gollini had made the save on the Pisilli snapshot from the edge of the box and Dovbyk turned in the rebound. However, the offside flag was up for earlier in the move. But, VAR decided to have a look and after almost 10 minute check, it was ruled that Mancini was not offside in a build-up to the goal and therefore Dovbyk scored his maiden goal for Roma. Another newcomer Manu Kone had a chance to score the second goal just before the break, but his shot was stopped by a Genoa defender. Genoa even had a chance just afterwards on the counter attack, but this time it was Mile Svilar with a save for Roma. The most of the second half was basically a game between the two penalty areas without much excitement. The biggest chance happened in front of Roma’s goal, when former Atalanta and Marseille midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi had a fierce shot from a free kick, which Svilar managed only to parry, but Vitihna’s shot was blocked. And then in the 96th minute, Roma was finally punished for their misses throughout the game with a late equalizer by De Winter.
