Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup: What are the major differences?

The 2024 Presidents Cup is here. The biennial match-play event starts Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Royal Montreal Golf Club, as it’s the International’s turn to host.

This will be the 15th playing of the event and the U.S. has dominated, holding a 12-1-1 overall mark. The Americans have only lost the cup in 1998. That lone International win is also the largest margin of victory — 20½ to 10½ — in the series. The tie came five years later in 2003 in South Africa.

The Presidents Cup is always contested in the off year for the Ryder Cup and when the Ryder Cup has been rescheduled, the Presidents Cup accomodates and changes its dates as well.

Here’s a few other differences between the two cups.
