MONTREAL — The brooms were out on Thursday at the Presidents Cup as the U.S. swept the opening session 5-0. None of the Golfweek staff predicted that beatdown. We’ll try to do better.
International Team Captain Mike Weir tried to put some lipstick on the pig, saying, “Reality is it wasn’t a great day, but it’s like the first period of a hockey game the way I look at it. You’re down, but there’s a long way to go.”
Adam Scott tried to find a silver lining too: “We’re now in a really tough spot, but thankfully there’s tomorrow.”
On Friday, the competition switches to the foursomes format, or alternate shot, with the first match beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Here are our predictions for the five matches.
