Do you remember when coach Roberto De Zerbi drew attention to himself? It was back in Italy when he took over Sassuolo and won the public with his attractive (and attacking) football? He continued that during his short stint with Shakhtar (interrupted due to armed conflict in Ukraine) and in Brighton. This June, he arrived in Marseille and took over the ‘fallen giant‘ of French football and the results were visible from the start – five rounds, four wins and only one draw. But against Strasbourg, his team failed to continue the unbeaten run and catch up with leaders PSG and lost, rather surprisingly 1-0. What‘s worse is that this loss was just first in the last 17 games with Strasbourg and Olympique now fell to the third place since Monaco won at home against struggling Montpelier.Diego Moreira’s last two matches for Strasbourg:-Assist vs. Lille-Goal vs. MarseilleDiegzy’s first-ever senior goal sees Marseille suffer their first defeat since May 15. pic.twitter.com/UQOeQDplv8— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) September 29, 2024 Diego Moreira’s strike for Strasbourg just before the break condemned the visitors to a first defeat of the season and that was the finals score, despite other chances from both teams. In the 40th minute, Moreira surged onto a through ball on the left and slotted a calm finish past Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to score the first goal of his senior professional career. Marseille had chances to equalize but Djordje Petrovic in the Strasbourg goal was equal to Mason Greenwood as the home side saw out their second win of the campaign. Strasbourg played an excellent match; for most of the game, they were the better team and didn’t fear their renowned opponent. Roberto De Zerbi’s team had played attractively and offensively until now, but in this game, they hit a wall. And one of the strongest “bricks” in that wall was Chelsea‘s loanee Đorđe Petrović. When Strasbourg’s players were faltering and Marseille was close to equalizing, the Serbian goalkeeper was the last line of defense, preventing the net from shaking. While he had little to do in the first half, Petrović made two phenomenal saves in the second. First, in the 55th minute, he saved Harit’s shot, and nine minutes later, he stopped Maupay in a great opportunity. Strasbourg claimed a big win, while Marseille suffers their first defeat of the season.LIGUE 1 – MATCHDAY 6FridayAuxerre – Brest 3-0 (2-0)/Owusu 26, Jubal 37(p), Traore 59/PSG – Rennes 3-1 (1-0)/Barcola 30, 68, Lee 56 – Kalimuendo 75(p)/SaturdayLens – Nice 0-0Le Havre – Lille 0-3 (0-2)/David 23, 35, 79/Monaco – Montpellier 2-1 (1-1)/Balogun 32, Camara 90+8 – Nzingoua 16/SundayToulouse – Olympique Lyon 1-2 (1-1)/Ghobo 14 – Nicolaisen 28 – Fofana 90+5/Nantes – Saint-Etienne 2-2 (1-0)/Lepenant 10, Thomas 49 – Sissoko 57, 67/Angers – Reims 1-3 (0-2)/Ferhat 87 – Nakamura 9, Ito 25, Munetsi 79/Strasbourg – Olympique Marseille 1-0 (1-0)/Moreira 40/
