FKF Electoral Board responds to disgruntled presidential candidates

Dan Mulee, a member of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) electoral board has moved to calm fears that there will be no free and fair elections.Speaking a day after five candidates for the President’s seat raised concerns about their partiality, Mulee said: “We have given aggrieved parties an opportunity to lodge complaints with the board.“We are listening to everyone and handling all complaints as they come. The period to sort out all outstanding issues has not even ended and so we don’t understand why some people are raising issues.”##NAJAVA_MECA_8388989##He also denied that FKF President Nick Mwendwa and CEO Barry Otieno were interfering in the electoral process as claimed by the five presidential candidates on Thursday.“We are working independently and the two have never given us any instructions as regards the process.”Mulee further confirmed that the Independent Electoral Board Commission (IEBC) or another independent body will carry out the electoral process.Regarding complaints that the board’s impartiality may be compromised by operating from Kandanda House, the headquarters of FKF, Mulee said their hands are tied.“The electoral code clearly states that the board shall operate from Kandanda House or wherever we decide. This was approved at the Special General Meeting (SGM).“Instead of complaining, my advice to anyone who is aggrieved is to seek to change the code in a legally constituted meeting. As it is, our hands are tied.”Story of Sofapaka’s Edward Omondi: From Dandora slums with a Manchester United dreamOn Thursday, five contenders for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections raised concern over the voter register and wanted certain irregularities addressed before the polls.Former international Harold Ndege who read the statement on behalf of the contenders, claimed there were irregularities in 30 counties.“Altering the voter undermines fairness.
