Look who’s back – the captain

It‘s not like Liverpool player needed any boost ahead of their trip to London to face struggling Crystal Palace (in relegation zone), but when a familiar face came to the Reds’ AXA Training Centre on Friday, the mood was suddenly up. Jordan Henderson, Liverpool‘s former captain decided to pop in and say hello to his former teammates and all other employees at the premises and needless to say, he was more than welcome. In 2023, Henderson made a rather surprise move, deciding to leave the English giant and the captain‘s armband and receive millions in Saudi Arabia, where Steven Gerrard waited him in Al-Ettifaq. But his move to the Middle East lasted just a few months and failed miserably, so he moved to Holland‘s legendary Ajax in January this year.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👋 Jordan Henderson went to visit his old club Liverpool. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/kuZCQzaayd— EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) October 5, 2024 The England international was given a hero’s welcome by Liverpool players in Kirkby on Friday, where he spent 12 seasons and won seven trophies. Henderson could be seen in a warm embrace with several players who remained from his time at the club, including current skipper Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold. The veteran also spared some time for the likes of Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones at the Reds training ground. It‘s not known if he met the coach Arne Slot, who is enjoying his fantastic start at the new club. Honeymoon is hardly over for the Dutchman, as he has made the best start to an Anfield career of any manager in Liverpool’s history.UCL: Salah and Slot break Liverpool record in a 2-0 winSlot has won eight of his first name games in charge and he is not bothered about an early kick-off which are often given to Liverpool (14:30 Nairobi time), like his predecessor Jurgen Klopp.”I think we have to talk about an away game and (how) that is difficult, because if 12.30 was a difficult time to perform then I’m a really stupid manager because we train every day at 12 o’clock. I don’t see the idea behind it being that difficult performing at that time” he said at the press conference, and it was already seen as a slight dig at Klopp.Adeyemi is the one – Liverpool have chosen Salah’s successorAs for Henderson, in 2023 while speaking for Jake Humphries’ High Performance podcast he revealed that unlike with Slot, Liverpool players trained in the afternoon with Klopp and didn‘t like it. He even recalled asking Klopp about it as the team‘s captain, but got a very blunt answer.”The lads were coming in and they felt a bit lethargic, a bit tired. Especially at this time of year. Five O’clock you’re going out and it’s getting dark. The floodlights are on and you’re just starting to train. The lads pulled me – a few of them – and said ‘could we have it earlier?’ As captain I felt like I needed to at least ask the question, so I thought I will at least have to go and speak to the gaffer. So I went up to him. He sort of looked at me and said ‘Who said that? Who’s moaning about it?’ I thought to myself, I can’t be naming people here and chucking people under the bus. He’s just gone ‘Well tell them, if anyone’s got an issue with training time, come and speak to me directly.’ I thought ‘oof OK, that’s the last time I go and ask anything like that again’. I walked out and told that lads you’ve got no chance, but if you want it that badly, just go and speak to the gaffer yourself. No-one ever went up!” he said.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 7Saturday 14.30: (6.00) Crystal Palace (4.10) Liverpool (1.55)17.00: (1.15) Arsenal (8.00) Southampton (16.0)17.00: (2.10) Brentford (3.50) Wolverhampton (3.80)17.00: (3.35) Leicester (3.50) Bournemouth (2.25)17.00: (1.28) Man.City (6.75) Fulham (10.5)17.00: (1.85) West Ham (3.60) Ipswich (4.30)19.30: (3.20) Everton (3.50) Newcastle (2.20)Sunday 16.00: (2.25) Aston Villa (3.50) Man.Utd.
