Hakan Çalhanoğlu is at serious risk of being suspended for one or more matches in Serie A due to maintaining connections with criminals who controlled Inter fans in the northern stand of San Siro. The Turkish international is not under criminal investigation and is not in danger of facing trial, but he could pay a high price for his “friendship” with, euphemistically speaking, problematic individuals. An investigative judge questioned the Turkish player for several hours yesterday in Milan. Çalhanoğlu admitted to having relationships with Marco Federico and the late Andrea Belocco, individuals accused of mafia associations and a series of crimes, ranging from drug trafficking to extortion, as well as with other leaders of organized fan groups.Police to call Inzaghi over connections with arrested fansÇalhanoğlu confirmed that he maintained these connections despite the club’s explicit advice to all players not to engage with fan group leaders who are not formally recognized by the club, as outlined in Article 25 of the Sports Code. By doing so, the Turkish player cleared Inter of responsibility but placed himself in a difficult position, as, under the Code, he could face suspension for one or more matches for violating its provisions. The Turkish international defended himself by stating that he never went to dinner with fans accused of mafia involvement and that he only learned who they were after the September 4th murder of Belocco, a member of one of the most influential families in Calabria’s criminal organization, the ‘Ndrangheta.Inter interested in Bayer’s defenderIt all started at the beginning of October when Milan police arrested a large number of Inter and Milan supporters. The police conducted a major operation in Milan, during which 18 leaders of the Milan and Inter ultras were arrested on charges of criminal activities. Among those arrested were prominent figures from both fan groups, including several well-known names from the world of combat sports. Those arrested are accused of a series of serious criminal offenses, including extortion, parking racketeering, and organizing violent clashes. Italian police already questioned Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as part of that criminal investigation but only as a witness, the sources said.SERIE A – MATCHDAY 8Saturday16:00: (1.97) Como (3.50) Parma (3.80)16:00: (3.60) Genoa (3.25) Bologna (2.15)19:00: (1.40) Milan (5.00) Udinese (9.00)21:45: (2.15) Juventus (3.45) Lazio (3.70)Sunday13:30: (5.90) Empoli (3.70) Napoli (1.70)16:00: (3.20) Lecce (3.40) Fiorentina (2.40)16:00: (5.60) Venezia (3.90) Atalanta (1.70)19:00: (2.80) Cagliari (3.05) Torino (2.70)21:45: (4.40) Roma (3.50) Inter (1.85)Monday21:45: (2.35) Verona (3.20) Monza (3.20)***odds are subject to change***
