Four FKF presidential candidates risk being locked out of elections

Four Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential candidates are yet to be cleared to contest in the up-coming elections we can reveal.The four have not got the required number of endorsements and have been given until Sunday to provide the same or be locked out.They include Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla, Tom Alila, Sam Nyamweya and Chris Amimo.##NAJAVA_MECA_8474478##According to a source in the electoral board, five candidates have been cleared to contest so far.“We are strictly following the code and the four have not fully met a requirement regarding the number of nominations to contest so we have asked them to provide us with some documents before we clear them,” said our source who asked not to be named.Those cleared are Hussein Mohammed, Barry Otieno, Cleophas Shimanyula, Doris Petra and Sammy ‘Owino’ Kempes.The tough electoral code was passed during the FKF Special General Meeting (SGM) held on August 24.FKF Elections: Eliud Owalo on the biggest problem ailing Kenyan footballThe code used in the 2020 elections was challenged at the Sports Tribunal before it was eventually approved.The clauses that were expected to prove problematic for some candidates going for the President’s post include a requirement that they must have been in active football for three of the last four years though this was later changed to two of the last five years.Other requirements include the presentation of declarations of support from at least five of the seventy-eight eligible voters.Candidates must also be cleared by various state bodies among them the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).Date set for first ever FKF presidential debateThe elections will kick off on November 9 at the county level with the national polls scheduled for December 7.Cleared candidates will have an opportunity to endear themselves to delegates during the first-ever Presidential debate, which will be held on October 25 at the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA).
