Ronald Kimeli Kurgat and Gladys Chemutai are the 2024 Stanchart Nairobi Marathon winners after a spectacular performance on Sunday, 27 October. Kimeli and Chemutai dominated the full marathon with impressive times.Kimeli won the men’s category in 2:13:05, while Chemutai clocked 2:31:52.##NAJAVA_MECA_8445527##The men’s race was highly competitive, with Dominic Kipkirui finishing second in 2:13:13, just eight seconds behind Kimeli, and Peter Kwemoi taking third place with a time of 2:13:14.Speaking after the race, Kimeli noted that he had not expected to win, crediting his victory to a powerful kick in the final meters.“It was not easy; we pushed ourselves until the last kilometer, and I gave it my all. I wasn’t expecting to win, but my teammate motivated me to keep going, and I’m grateful to God for the strength,” Kimeli said.In the women’s race, Chemutai was followed closely by Caroline Koech, who crossed the line in 2:35:00, with Joy Kemuma finishing third in 2:36:06.Chemutai, a familiar face in the marathon, expressed gratitude that her hard work had finally paid off.“I’m thankful to God for this win… It wasn’t easy, but I’m happy to have won. This is my third time racing here, and I didn’t expect to win—last year, I finished fifth. I train in Iten, and after going back to the drawing board, I put in the work, and I’m glad I kept my promise to win,” Chemutai said.In the half marathon, Vincent Mutai outshone his opponents despite early struggles, even vomiting twice during the race. I hadn’t expected to win, but I knew I could from my preparation. Now, I’ll focus on cross-country races,” Mutai said.In the women’s half marathon, Caroline Olbara ran at her own pace, securing victory in 1:11:06. Gladys Koech (1:12:10) and Esther Chemutai (1:12:12) finished second and third, respectively.John Wambua demonstrated that disability is not a limitation by winning the men’s wheelchair race, finishing in 1:29:01.
